4 Chic Ways to Style Faux Leather Shorts for Fall & Winter

Updated: Jan 5

Okay, hear me out—leather shorts in winter?! I promise, it works, and here's why: faux leather shorts, paired with cozy tights, are the perfect addition to your fall and winter wardrobe. They’re versatile, they keep you warm, and they can easily transition from day to night. And let’s not forget, tights are your secret weapon for added warmth (and style).

For all the looks below, I’m rocking the same basic base: faux leather shorts from NastyGal (yes, you heard right, that’s the name of the store!) These shorts are affordable, comfy, and cute—though I did roll them up to shorten the length. I found this little hack gave me the illusion of longer, slimmer legs, instead of a blocky silhouette.

Now, onto my must-have winter essentials: faux translucent tights from Amazon. These are such a steal! They look delicate and sheer, but they’re thick and cozy enough to keep you warm. (Trust me, you’ll love them.)

As for my footwear, I’m sticking with my favorite black over-the-knee faux leather boots (also from NastyGal). They’re thick-thigh-friendly, so no awkward pinching here, and they give each look a chic finish.

Let’s dive into these looks—get ready to elevate your winter-style game!

1. Layered White Button-Up Shirt + Crop Top

This look is perfect for the office (depending on your workplace’s dress code, of course). I love layering a classic white button-up with a crop top—it’s a great way to accentuate an hourglass shape. The crop helps to highlight the smallest part of your waist, giving the illusion of curves.

I paired this with some bold pearl statement earrings for a fun twist on classic elegance, and added a thin black necktie to finish the look. If neckties aren’t your thing, a chunky statement necklace would be an excellent substitute.

Pro tip: Layering is your friend! It adds dimension to any outfit and makes it look effortlessly chic.

2. Chunky Sweater = Cozy Chic

When in doubt, a chunky sweater is always a winner. This look combines warmth and style in the best way possible. Whether you’re lounging at home or heading out for a casual day, faux leather shorts and a chunky sweater are the perfect pair.

I love how the contrast between the cozy, oversized sweater and the structured shorts adds balance to the outfit. Plus, it’s so easy to layer up or down depending on the weather. Throw on a scarf or some cozy boots to make it even cozier!

3. T-Shirt & Blazer Combo

Want a look that works for both casual days and dressier nights? Pair your faux leather shorts with a classic t-shirt and a tailored blazer. This combo is totally versatile—you can dress it down with sneakers or dress it up with heels. Perfect for a lunch date, happy hour, or anything in between.

I went with a simple white tee, but this look would be just as fun with a graphic tee for a pop of personality. The blazer pulls everything together for that polished yet effortless vibe.

4. Turtle Neck & Beret: Edgy and Chic

This is hands down my favorite look. I’m all about the turtle neck and beret combo. It’s the ultimate mix of chic and edgy, with a touch of French-girl flair. The turtle neck adds sophistication, while the beret (don’t judge me, I’m obsessed!) gives it a quirky, cool vibe.

For a touch of glam, I added statement earrings. You can also layer a blazer over this for extra warmth. Whether you’re running errands or grabbing coffee with friends, this look will make you feel effortlessly stylish.
